The country’s premier institute for technology and management education, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, has started an initiative to strengthen women entrepreneurship in the country and promote an ecosystem that enables creation and sustenance of such enterprises by women.

Called Women Entrepreneurship and Empowerment Foundation (WEEF), this initiative of IIT Delhi, has been co-founded by Sarandeep Singh, who is also the programme director, and Aparna Saroagi.

The programme will be launched at IIT Delhi from Oct 1, 2016.

It’s a free-of-cost, three months programme exclusively for 30 budding/existing women entrepreneurs, conducted during weekends and will include interactions with mentors, entrepreneurs and investors as well as visits to incubation centres.

The premium programme has been designed to address challenges and opportunities that Indian women entrepreneurs are dealing with today. The course will include classes on financial and business fundamentals that entrepreneurs need to know to compete and run businesses profitably.

“In the next four to five years, 75% of the purchases will be influenced by women. The entrepreneur needs to change. More women founders will bring civilization to the business world,” says Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, director, IIT Delhi.
