Rajinikanth's May 2014 release, Kochadaiiyaan, directed by his daughter Soundarya, garnered estimated revenues of about Rs 500 crore, despite mixed reviews. The Rs 125-crore Tamil period film was released in 3D (a first for India) and dubbed in Marathi, Japanese, Italian and Spanish. It was Rajinikanth's return to the big screen after a gap of four years; his last release was sci-fi film Enthiran (2010). His next, Lingaa, a tri-lingual which released on the superstar's birthday on December 12, is already said to have raked in Rs 200 crore through various distribution rights.
Fast Fact: At the audio launch of Lingaa in November 2014, the actor hinted that he might be joining politics. He said, "If God is willing, I will serve people."
