Making money is always serious business. And we’re deadly serious about the promise we’ve made on the cover of this Special Edition. Ever since the planning for our Investment Guide 2010 a couple of months ago, we were clear about the overarching purpose. It was to help long-term investors understand the big shifts in our economy that would shape investment opportunities in 2010. We believe that the investment decisions that you eventually make, based on some of the ideas presented here, will pay off over a period of about five years.

The package consists of three main components: One, a big picture perspective of the changing investment landscape. I think it is an absolute must-read for all discerning investors looking for new investment themes. Set against this backdrop, we’ve then attempted to frame the key issues that you need to keep in mind while devising how to arrive at the best mix between equities, bonds and all the other asset classes. This is a crucial piece of the investing puzzle because how you allocate your money means more to your wealth than mere stock picks, planning your taxes or the hours you spend with your financial advisor.

Two, we’ve dived into each asset class to sift out the specific opportunities and risks — and how to play the game differently in 2010. To do that, we’ve also brought on board a panel of experts who’ve had enormous experience of managing money and assets. Sanjoy Bhattacharyya, one of the sharpest minds in the Indian markets and Forbes India columnist, joined us as Consulting Editor for this project. He helped frame the key issues that make up this special edition and worked closely with our edit team, led by Associate Editors S. Srinivasan and Pravin Palande. The rest of our expert panel comprises some of the savviest minds from the world of finance and markets, including our very own resident expert Udayan Mukherjee, the Managing Editor of CNBC-TV18. Intelligent investors will benefit from their wisdom and practical advice that covers the entire gamut of asset classes, ranging from equities, fixed income, real estate, commodities, gold, art and private equity.

Finally, to round off the package, we’ve chosen a set of stories that keep you attuned to the emerging trends — and what they mean for you as an investor. So if it’s about the new IFRS norms, the emergence of the mobile phone as your new investing tool or the value of portfolio management schemes, you’ll find a mix of stories that help you stay ahead of the curve.

Hope you find this special package relevant and useful. Please send me your comments and feedback. Happy Investing!
