Former schoolteacher started off with a trading business out of a small shop in Delhi's Old City. An opportunity to buy a fellow trader's operations got him the Havells brand. Over the last fifty years, that trading business has evolved into an operation that sells $1.3 billion worth of lighting, switchgears, electrical and home appliances every year. This year also saw him opening a new hospital in the national capital. He enters the billionaires' club for the first time after shares of Havells India received a 65 percent boost on higher earnings.
