The founder of Kalyan Jewellers debuts as earnings rose at his 61-store gold jewellery chain. It uses Bollywood stars in all its ad campaigns that emphasise the purity of its gold and transparent pricing. He started working in the family's textile store at the age of 12 and set up the jewellery chain in 1993. He recently opened 150 My Kalyan mini stores to sell affordable diamonds in rural areas in his native Kerala; also plans to expand to neighbouring states with 150 more stores.
