A visual artist, Karekar dabbles with illustration as well as typography, often employing techniques like clay modelling and paper craft into his work.

Says Prashant Kanyalkar, founder of KA Advertising, who worked with Karekar in AlokNandaCompany, “Most people don’t have a clue about what they are doing at 29, while Lokesh has already worked in advertising, lent his illustration style to everything from magazines and books to restaurants and clothing, started his own product line, his own company, won numerous design awards and gotten married!”

Karekar’s Mumbai studio LOCOPOPO has an impressive client roster with names like The Taj Group, Rolling Stone, Conde Nast and Good Homes, calling on him. He also likes to convert his work into objects of everyday use like bags, mugs and limited edition prints and badges; these are supplied to select lifestyle stores. He won the 2013 Kyoorius award for packaging design and design craft–illustration for Varnam, a company that manufactures lac turnery toys.
