With the festival season upon us, we are presented with a resounding reminder of the power of tradition. Though generations come and go and there may be variations in the nuances, the broad legacy of the past prevails. Legacy values set benchmarks for accomplishment and it is these aspirations that carry a legacy forward. Great minds of our times and those before them - thought leaders, business magnates, wealth wizards, policy curators and activists, cultural instigators, artists and musicians and other game changers - have all been purveyor of legacy.

In the sphere of accessories and icons that define us too, there is always a built-in element of legacy that lends appeal. From crafting a villa in the hills or setting up a school for the underprivileged in one’s hometown, to gifting an ultra-premium time piece or diamonds set in platinum, an element of the classic is always built in, as it speaks of our deeper values.

In that light, keeping tradition alive, India’s largest luxury car manufacturer recently launched its iconic performance off-roader - the new generation Mercedes-AMG G 63, with many appealing upgraded features, while retaining its 39 year old heart and soul. Effectively, the new AMG G 63 is everything it was but can do everything better than the preceding models.

This cult luxury off-roader has stood the test of generations and gained the distinction of being a yardstick for competitors. Remaining true to its well-proven virtues, it continues to be unquestionably aspirational, not despite but especially due to its retro and rugged appearance.

Powered by a 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine that generates an astonishing 430 kW (585 hp) of power, helps the new AMG G 63 attain 100 km/h from standstill in a mere 4.5 seconds. It underpins its unique position among performance off-road vehicles with the powerful drive system, the newly developed AMG ride control suspension, the AMG-specific transmission modes and a torsionally rigid bodyshell mounted on a strong ladder-type chassis. The AMG Speed shift TCT 9G transmission used in the new G 63 has a model-specific software application to achieve very short shift times while the multiple downshift function allows more spontaneous bursts of speed. The double-declutching function in "Sport" and "Sport Plus" transmission modes makes for an even more emotional driving experience.

The new AMG G 63 has a host of safety features - Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, an optional Driving Assistance package which includes Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC as well as Blind Spot Assist, a high-performance braking system, and more, in keeping with the family lineage’s focus on safety.

Michael Jopp, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Mercedes India explains, “The Mercedes-AMG G 63 has now reached a completely new dimension in terms of technology with the 4.0‐ litre V8 biturbo engine, combined with its off-road characteristics, its agility and vehicle dynamics. The extreme rock-climbing abilities combined with sports car performance, class leading styling and a high-tech cabin makes the new Mercedes-AMG G 63 yet another legend in the making.”

A veritable acquisition of pride for the discerning collector, this vehicle conforms unflinchingly to the aspirations of those who define their existence with strong legacies and tradition that come across as stronger than time.
