Mukesh Verma, my school friend, is our host. He suggests we go for a drive around the city at 9 p.m. after he shutters his jewelry shop. “Are you mad,” I react instinctively. He assures me it’s OK. We step out. I do not mention this to my dad when he calls. He has already called thrice during the day, every time asking me to be cautious.
Winds of Change
Nitish has picked his team of bureaucrats well. Amrit has overseen completion of 400-plus bridge projects. Once a loss-making state unit with Rs. 300-crore turnover, it is now a profitable enterprise with a turnover of Rs. 2,700 crore.

Very aptly mentioned the details on Munger ..I everyday think and remember Munger and that is my strength..surprisingly found mention of Gautam Mishra sir - we were his first batch of students.
on Sep 12, 2011Please build the various train stations and airport industries.

on Dec 28, 2010Nitishji should hire ex servicemen for the police. That will give him a proper police force.
on Nov 24, 2010I cried reading your article. Why should any one have done this to our beautiful MONGHYR
on Apr 21, 2010Thanks Malini its really a nice article please keep on writing such articles this will build confidence among us and together we can help our ruined motherland to come out and regain its lost glory. JAI BIHAR
on Apr 19, 2010The author is right in highlighting the change in law & order situation at the ground level. Being a Bihari, I can also sense it while visiting my home town. However all said n done, the fact remains that the Nitish Govt. has absolutely failed on some of the major promises made to the people of Bihar.
No sugar mill has restarted and no power plant has become operational again. There were some news about the efforts but the score till date is a big Zero. We all know vary well the saga of Bihari labourers helping build the rest of India and how it could turn the fortunes of the state if harnessed properly. If there is any decrease in the labour migration from the state, it is only due to the centre sponsored schemes like NREGA and all.
on Apr 14, 2010My heartiest congratulations to Malini from My college. A girl who passed out 10 years later than I did ,wrote a holistic coloumn about the contemporary Bihar . I passed out from D.J COLLEGE in 1978.Your Munger travelogue brought me back to the site of Kashtaharni Ghat of The Ganges. You have written the microscopic view of state very meticulously. I am proud of your write up.
I am settled in Delhi and working for a large size petrochemical company.
Thanks - An alumini-D.J. college
on Apr 9, 2010Nice story and research, but you talked about no multiplexes n malls in Bihar. But now in Patna there is one multiplex named Mona (Gandhi Maidan) n Prakash Jha is working on building a multiplex n mall in Patliputr colony where it is almost done, will be inaugurated in few months in thnk. We need people like Prakash Jha who after getting fame n name work and invest for their motherland for the upliftment of Bihar. It is really a matter of concern that in spite of the fact the we produce the highest num. of IAS n IPS, we r devoid of the pride. I know many people all around who want to be away from Bharis. But the overgeneralisation is changing with the regime of Nitish Kumar. If he continues to work for Bihar as CM with the same passion for the next two terms atleast, Bihar will regain its pride. Hope people help him to work for the welfare of Bihar.
on Apr 7, 2010Very good Article. We will be back to home very soon.
on Apr 3, 2010Looks like we have to keep improving law and order till private companies consider Bihar as an attractive place to setup I.T, B.P.O and other initiatives that are so vital for our economic development.
on Mar 31, 2010Only an 'insider' can sift through the claims and counter claims to reach the heart of the matter. Congratulations for an insightful depiction of the reality in Bihar.

Sanjay Uvach
Changing Bihar, slowly
on Mar 17, 2010"At least people have begun to think about returning." After all Home is the place you want to come back at end of the day.
If it goes like this then no wonder all your thoughts would become reality.
on Mar 17, 2010Very well written. Brought tears to my eyes. Thanks
on Mar 18, 2010Very well written article but you should have appreciated Lalu for his contribution. It is said that renaissance in europe had come due to outbreak of black fever(plague) Bihar was sliding from 1974 and bihari workers were migrating to Punjab in 70s itself. He was lalu who accelrated the slide and finaly in 15yrs time it reached its nadir. This caused change in thinking of society. Nitish Kr simply represents the change in thinking. Now atleast some of people have stopped voting caste line. This change is in fact Lalu's contribution.
on Mar 19, 2010Now we have someone who is capable of taking Bihar to its past glory. Now BJP and Congress bury their differences and help Bihar have Nitish as their saviour for a few more terms. Cong, BJP and Nitish should form an alliance for the betterment of Bihar.
on Mar 20, 2010Amazing work....nicely picturized.... But the very fact that BIHAR needs is the people like you should visit the state, and see the wave of change. Future is in our hands, to spread, to communicate and make it a communicable news regarding the change and the challenges that we are grappling with. At times, i become perturbed by the fact when people tend to dissociate with their Bihari origins, its not the solution rather we should dream and create an environment wherein we can proudly flaunt our BIHARI status.
on Mar 20, 2010Nicely written mam.... the change is visible.. and no doubt, its just the beginning.
We all have to realise this now that its not possible for one man alone to do everything.... we all have to come forward.. its we, the literati who will have to forbear and carry-on the change. Lets focus on Bihar's development and contribute our bit. I would ask you too mam to return and put in your service here itself. Let us all do it... coz we can... and we only can. Lets forget our castes, status and all such pulling stuff... and join hands. HAIL THE CHANGE. HAIL BIHAR.
on Mar 21, 2010This article by Malini is too good & inspiring - she seems to have done all critical analysis and home work before concluding her logical points about change in Bihar! She definitely deserves a pat and love from all like-minded Biharis globally! Malini - please keep writing ! I want to devour more such interesting write-ups about Bihar! _ Sanjay_Tokyo
