1. Football: Euro 2012

To be held in Poland and Ukraine in June, this is the last Euro Championship to host 16 countries. The next Euro in 2016 will feature 24 countries. Current champions Spain will look to defend their ‘double’ (Euro and World Cup winners) against their fellow Eurozone members. At a time when the whole continent is going belly up, maybe the Euro can provide a momentary distraction. We are betting on the Netherlands to take the trophy this edition.

2. F1: Indian Grand Prix

The first ever India GP, held in 2011, has been a huge success. Anybody who was anybody made a beeline to watch it. At the Paddock Club, there was good wine, good food and great company. Stands at the Buddh International Circuit were almost 90 percent full. Expect the race fever to go a notch higher next year.

3. Olympics
Do we really need to tell you why this is an event you can’t miss?

4.Tennis: Roland Garros
There are two reasons why you can’t give Roland Garros a skip. Novak Djokovic has the opportunity to complete a ‘Career Slam’ by winning the 2012 edition. The second is this could potentially be the last great battle between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Nadal has gone on record to say that his passion for the game is diminishing, but this is his turf and he won’t give it up easily to the Swiss if they meet during the tournament.

5.Cricket: India-England Test Series

England have never really won big in Asia. India are smarting under the humiliating whitewash they got in July on English shores. Anyone who says this isn’t a revenge series is just being politically correct. We don’t know if Rahul Dravid and V.V.S. Laxman will still be in the team, but India’ll need really good batsmen to take on the world’s best fast bowling unit.

I am surprised you did not mention ICC World T20 Tournament at Sri Lanka. However I am looking forward to an entertaining year full of intense rivalries and amazing contests.
