Flipkart's chief product officer Punit Soni quits

This is the third high-profile exit for the Bengaluru-based ecommerce firm, in two months

A former Google executive, Soni joined Flipkart in February last year

Punit Soni, chief product officer at India’s largest ecommerce company Flipkart has quit, adding to the list of high profile exits in the last two months. A former Google executive, Soni joined Flipkart in February last year.

In an email response to Forbes India, Flipkart confirmed Soni’s exit from the company. However, it did not share any further details.

In February this year, Mukesh Bansal, head of commerce platform and advertising business at Flipkart also resigned, along with another top executive, Ankit Nagori, who was the chief business officer at the Bengaluru-based ecommerce firm.


At Flipkart, Soni was responsible for all product development initiatives and its core strategy, spearheading a team of 400 people across departments such as product management, design, marketing, and analytics.

Prior to his role at Flipkart, Soni was based in Silicon Valley and has worked across multiple divisions at Google. He was also vice president, product management, at Google’s Motorola Mobility division.


In the last one year, Flipkart has made some big ticket hiring from global tech majors. In September, it roped in Dan Rawson, former general manager (Fulfillment) in North America, Amazon, to spearhead its customer logistics and supply chain division. At the same time, Anand Lakshminarayanan was appointed as head of product management for digital goods and services. Before joining Flipkart, Lakshminarayanan was with Microsoft at Hyderabad. Flipkart also named Ravi Byakod as director of engineering (accounting). Prior to Flipkart, Byakod was at Google as head of engineering based out of its Mountain View, California, headquarters.
