Priyanka Chopra debuts as an Influencer on LinkedIn

Actor Priyanka Chopra has joined LinkedIn’s exclusive collective of ‘Influencers’, the professional networking platform said on Monday. With this, former Miss World Chopra, who also stars in the American television series, Quantico, enters a select group of about 500 influential personalities that LinkedIn enlists in order to drive conversations on its platform. With her inclusion, Chopra finds herself in the company of influencers like Biocon chairman and MD Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Pepsico chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

LinkedIn, which was sold for $26 billion to Microsoft earlier this year, has, for the past few years, pursued a strategy that encourages publishing of content on its platform. Its purpose has been to increase engagement and go beyond the company’s core proposition of being an efficient hiring tool. “Ms Chopra’s debut on LinkedIn as an Influencer also underscores how far we have come as the platform for professional conversations and content, and our desire to invest to become even more relevant to audiences in India and globally,” said Akshay Kothari, LinkedIn India’s country manager.

Chopra’s contributions to the platform, her earliest post suggests, will include her perspective on entrepreneurship, thought leadership as well as philanthropy. “I’ve always had a penchant for business but am only just beginning to give wings to my entrepreneurial ambitions,” Chopra said. In her opening post on LinkedIn, she wrote about influences and decisions that have helped her on her journey, and touched upon her plans for her production house, Purple Pebble Pictures.
