Retail inflation is plunging, hitting a low of 0.25% in Oct 25. Yet, core inflation remains sticky, rising to 4.33% in the same month, the highest since September 2023. Aditi Nayar, chief economist, ICRA believes that the impact of GST was "dulled" by the increase in gold and silver prices during the festive season. Meanwhile, Dipti Deshpande, Principal Economist, Crisil says that since October was the first full month to reflect the impact of lower GST rates, "over time, the inflation benefits of reduction in GST rates for non-food categories will be greater than for food categories."
