ChatGPT’s app integrations signal shift toward AI-powered super-app
Users can access partner apps within ChatGPT; five of eight partner apps for users in India as of now

Imagine a world where one AI-powered interface replaces dozens of individual apps; where ordering food, curating a playlist, booking a trip, or even choosing a course to learn something happens through a single conversation. To some, it could mean seamless convenience, while to others it could signify an AI overreach that risks collapsing the diversity of digital experiences into one monolithic interface.
Either way, OpenAI is betting big on this possibility. On October 6, it announced a new generation of apps that can be used within ChatGPT. As of now eight apps—Uber, Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Figma, Expedia, Spotify and Zillow—have been integrated with ChatGPT, of which Figma, Expedia and Zillow are not available in India.
These apps respond to natural language, adapt to user context, and include interactive interfaces—all embedded within the chat functions. “Apps in ChatGPT fit naturally into conversation,” OpenAI said in its announcement. “You can discover them when ChatGPT suggests one at the right time, or by calling them by name.”
The rollout is available to all logged-in ChatGPT users outside the European Union (EU), across Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans. The rollout is not available in the EU primarily due to regulatory constraints, especially around data privacy, transparency, and accountability of AI systems.
“The magic of this new generation of apps in ChatGPT is how they blend familiar interactive elements with new ways of interacting through conversation,” OpenAI said in its October 6 release. “Because these apps appear naturally in your chats, you’ll find them when they’re most likely to be useful.”
Until now, ChatGPT integrations were largely limited to plugins or external links. With the Apps SDK, OpenAI is enabling apps to embed interactive elements such as maps, playlists or design canvases directly into the chat interface.

Internally, Uber has been building tools like QueryGPT that lets employees write SQL queries using natural language and GenAI Gateway, a unified interface to access models from OpenAI and other vendors. “This continued collaboration with OpenAI reflects how we’re applying AI with purpose to build meaningful, user-driven experiences that make everyday life easier,” Kansal added. Next to be integrated are DoorDash, Instacart, OpenTable, and Target, none of which are available in India.
What makes ChatGPT’s approach different from traditional super-apps is its ability to suggest them dynamically based on context, instead of bundling multiple services into one app. While analysts have praised these complex yet seamless app integrations, they have also flagged concerns around scalability, interface overload (with multiple apps responding to same queries), and user experience.
Previous super-apps such as Paytm, Tata Neu and PhonePe in India, and WeChat in China, have tried to bundle multiple services into one platform. However, except WeChat, most have struggled to gain sustained traction due to fragmented user needs, inconsistent service quality, and regulatory hurdles.
