Sports 18 (disclosure: A Network18 company), with Spectrum Worldwide, in association with the Karnataka government, is organising a new mass cycling event on Sunday, October 11, the BSA Hercules Cyclothon Bengaluru 09. The venue is the Nice Corridor at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre. Basically a distance cycling event, it invites mass involvement and features participation of cyclists from different countries.

There’s something for everyone: The 50km Elite race 25km events for corporates and amateurs and a 10K ride. For younger cyclists, there’s the shorter 2km Fun Ride (for kids) and a 5km Teen Ride. There’s prize money for the top performers, a total of Rs. 10 lakh. But we’re supporting it because it seeks to establish cycling as a viable mode of transport and an environmentally-friendly way to keep fit and healthy.
