This day marks the centennial of Indian cinema. From the monochrome pixels of Phalke’s Raja Harishchandra to the sleek montages of Bombay Talkies (a tribute to Indian cinema by four leading directors), celluloid in this country has had an eventful journey. Selecting memorable moments from these 100 years is akin to picking favourites from Sachin's 100 hundreds—it's a tough ask and quite a contentious task. Nevertheless, we’ve compiled a list of milestones that went on to advance cinema in India. Browse through the timeline and join us in the celebrations!

on May 6, 2013Dear Sohini, I would like to point out that there has been a error in your information compilation for your article paying tribute to 100 yrs of Cinema. Year 2002 - \"Let\"s Talk\" - 90 min English feature film was the first Digital film to be released in India on Dec 13th, 2002. India\"s first digital film to be released theatrically. You have mentioned a film called Nil Nirjane which infact released in Feb 2003. Please get this information corrected. Film directed by Ram Madhvani. you can check Wikipedia and IMDB for release date information as well. Hope to see a correction soon. Warmly, Amita Madhvani
on May 5, 2013Thanks for your comment. \'Nil Nirjane\' was first premiered in July 2002. Its wider theatrical release was delayed till Feb 2003 owing to logistical issues. It gets the credit for being India\'s first film to be shot and processed in digital. \'Let\'s Talk\' might have eventually released before \'Nil Nirjane\' but that doesn\'t make it the first diigtal film.
on May 5, 2013Dear Sohini, Thanks for your reply, Was the film Nil Nirjane premiered in a theatre as Let\'s talk\" was premiered in August 2002 at the Locarno film festival Switzerland. Enough articles on the net confirming that as a digital film release. That year we were in the Mumbai film Festival also as the first digital film:) Amita
