Data from the State of Working India Report 2026 reveals a tightening labour market for young professionals. Since 1983, the share of graduates among 20-to-29-year-olds has risen from 4 percent to 28 percent. Critically, graduates now constitute 67 percent of the unemployed in this age bracket, up from 13 percent four decades ago, signalling a significant structural skills-opportunity gap.
