In August 2019, PV Sindhu became the first Indian badminton player to win the BWF World Championships after crushing Japan's Nozomi Okuhara 21-7, 21-7 in just 36 minutes. The first woman from India to win a silver medal at the Olympics, PV Sindhu broke her jinx with a gold when she won the BWF World Championships. A Padma Shri awardee, the 24-year-old had earlier won two Bronze medals and two Silver medals at the championships.
