The movie, starring Aamir Khan, was Bollywood's highest-grossing movie globally. Hirani had scored several hits prior to that with 3 Idiots (2009), Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006) and his debut hit film Munna Bhai MBBS in 2003. Hirani, who initially worked in advertising jobs (he's known for the 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha' Fevicol ads), started in the industry as a film editor for Mission Kashmir (2000).
