It’s wedding season, and the sounds of cash registers are drowning out the shehnais. The Rs. 20,000 crore wedding market is set to make up for last year’s 20-25 percent fall in revenue. The upper end of the market (Rs. 5,000 crore) has upped its spending by 15 percent this wedding season.
And, thanks to a fortuitous alignment of the stars (seriously there are fewer auspicious dates available for Hindu couples), decorators, photographers and wedding planners are in huge demand and are, naturally, raising their prices.
Venues? From the traditional hotspots, Kerala has dropped in popularity, and Goa and Rajasthan are seeing an increase in demand.
