Managements should embrace the Idea of a Coach who can guide the transition of a specialist Manager into a General Manager to ensure the transition is less stressful both for the Manager and also for others in the team. It is known fact that the cost of a internal trained Manager is much less than the cost of a hired General Manager, and the culture fit and adjustment is better for a internal candidate than a external candidate. Managements tend to focus on the shortcomings of the internal candidate rather than his plus points. Most of short comings can be overcome with a proper coach. Currently Coaches are sought to groom the sons and daughters of promoters and not the employess raising trough the ranks. We should learn from the Army how a ordinary cadet is trained over his career period into a 5 Star Gereral commanding a million men.
on Oct 12, 2012Leaders generally are creator of team n handling a team. During my tenure of working it comes to me at several occassions when team works , results shall be in ur hands n a satisfied team by work n culture can do miracles apart from results. So a good manager always tries to deliver to system. Always appreciate ur team n train them to enjoy the work or job. Apart from technical strength u have to be a good listener too.
