Those who stray from the moral path will have neither peace in success not fortitude in tribulation; their pain is like that of the palanquin-carrier who cannot put his burden away
–M. Karunanidhi in Kuraloviyam, a commentary on Thirukkural
Karunanidhi has faced such desperation only on two occasions since he first became chief minister 42 years ago. In 1984, he got posters pasted across the state, showing him in a friendly chat with the then chief minister, M.G. Ramachandran (MGR), whom he was hoping to defeat at the hustings. The idea was that public would be less hostile to him if their star-hero MGR were shown to be a friend of his.

DMK GOVERNMENT OR DR Kalaignar"s corruptions touched the sky and created the record in the History of world and yet the concerned authorities is just waiting for the election to be over, but DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE AND NOT RECOVERABLE.
on Apr 6, 2011An Apt title for this article would be 'In the dream if an ADMK zealot'.
on Apr 6, 2011Corruption was in existance even during AIADMK Rule. Remember TANSI land Acquisition By Jaya and Acid incidence on ex-collector...
on Apr 4, 2011Sridhar Goswami is absolutely right. I'm flummoxed that an article of such bad standards is featured in Forbes. Anti-incumbency factor has always been there; but that in no way makes Jayalalithaa any better. In fact, there was absolutely no development during her rule. All that she successfully did was repressing workers with TESMA and ESMA laws, and suppressing minorities with that dumb 'Anti-conversion' law.
on Apr 4, 2011I'm just wondering what is this article all about? Is this a Forbes Indian assessment or so- called election results assessment? Since when did Forbes start writing some half baked, "masala peppered" TOI kinda articles? The article neither sings the full song of swan or both, Srinivasan & Ramnath couldnt articulate their compressed angers well enough against the "wearing off Dravidian pontiff" in Tamilnadu. As a note in point, not just the ageing gentleman, but Jayalalitha Iyengar herself has swindled, corrupted and got kicked out off her last term..What amuses me is the percolation of "caste" tempo that still keeps the likes of srinivasans and ramnath's to come out with such half baked, direction floundering articles..good enough to find fault with the ageing old dravidian leader who literally crucified the prospects of forward cast in tamilnadu!!!!cheers Goswami!..
on Apr 4, 2011Dear Mr.Go swamy, r u still in 1950 s.How many upper castes are there in Amma s ministry or candidate. In fact it was amma who introduced 67% reservation which this old man was only talking off. What development this old man did.R u talking of development of Alagiri,Kanimoli,Rajathi,Dayalu. Can u name single develoment this old man did.Other than Re 1 rice from tax payers money.Today all DMK ministers are owning palatial colleges, bunglows.TN s biggest college is coming up near Madurai named as Daya engg college by Alagiri .. Your note is absolutely nonsense. It is well known to even a villager the Kalainer TV was started from 2G scam money.
on Apr 4, 2011Vetri -Did u mean JJ? For a second, I was wondering whom AMMA meant!!!. JJ is suppsoedly single hence the quantum of money swindled cannot equate the DMK...Corruption as a measure - both are in the same boat. In terms of plausible policies, DMK is far better in terms of impact. Between the two devils, DMK is by far better. 2G story is much beyond what you and I know.. Next time, just call your mother alone AMMA.. Dont lend Amma nickname to anyone else.. samjhe?
on Apr 5, 2011TN is one of the most educated, developed, peaceful states in India. TN is the only state where women are empowered the most. All parties give cash for votes, but I dont think people of TN are influenced by such allurements. Even after receiving the gift, people will vote for whom ever they wish. We need programs to remove the imparity in the society at the same time without making the people lazy. Historically, TN has developed more during DMK period. Nepotism and favouritism are part of governence in India, no exception.
on Apr 4, 2011Very good analysis!Worth reading.
