Russian President Vladimir Putin is in New Delhi for his two-day visit, during which he will hold summit talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. The visit aims to boost trade with India, the top buyer of Russia’s arms and seaborne oil, as Western sanctions strain their decades-old ties. This is Putin’s first visit to India in four years, at a time when New Delhi is also engaged in talks with the US on a trade deal to reduce the punitive tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump over India’s purchases of Russian oil.
