Deflation hits Indian food prices as vegetables and pulses see sharpest drops, cooling overall inflation

The latest MOSPI figures reveal that overall food inflation hit an unprecedented low of -5.02 percent in October 2025 (Y-o-Y) mainly due to the base effect. This marks a sharp decline from the 10.87 percent rate recorded last year and is the lowest figure in the current CPI series. Prices for vegetables plummeted by -27.57 percent and pulses by -16.15 percent. However, volatile oils & fats prices were up 11.17 percent.
