Classics Revisited

Who wouldn’t love to have a classic style named after them? Well, that’s a rhetorical question, but it would be neat to have a piece of clothing that becomes a brand’s legacy. Off the top of our heads, we can think only of three styles named for the characters who wore them: the Mackintosh, the Peter Pan collar (never mind that this one’s fictional), and the Nehru jacket.

The folks at Nicobar are putting a little spin on the classic Nehru Jacket (tailored in hardy denim), and a bunch of other pieces that always do better with a bit of reinvention. Their menswear is a cohesive little capsule, awash with silhouettes that are classics, but sit perfectly in any contemporary male wardrobe.  There are kurtas designed to lounge in, shirts that are equal parts buttoned-up and casual, trousers that go from desk to drinks, and little flourishes in the form of pocket squares. These are essentials for every man’s wardrobe, and are designed to suit many lifestyles.

Their style is largely defined in the details that are often overlooked. Turn the shirt cuffs over, or peek into the seams of trouser pockets, and you’ll find little surprises like red stitch detail, or a fun contrast lining. Their Nehru Jacket sits in for a straightforward waistcoat, or swaps out an outer layer with equal ease, while the kurtas (of varying lengths) perfectly complement either a dhoti or a pair of cigarette pants. Work Nicobar’s signature pieces as wedding outfits, for lunch al fresco, or as a smart alternative for yawn-worthy workwear that doesn’t need to be all that staid. Either way, Nicobar menswear will take you places (or keep you company on a lazy Sunday indoors).
