CNBC-TV18, part of Network 18, emerged as the clear leader among English business news channels on the day of the union budget announcement, February 29, 2016.
On budget day, CNBC-TV18 had a 75 percent share of viewership, according to BARC data, which was thrice of all competition put together. During the finance minister’s budget speech in Parliament, the channel had a 72 percent share of viewership.
During the budget week, not only did the channel lead other English business news channels, but its viewership was almost three times that of Times Now, an English general news channel, thereby consolidating its position as the distinct leader in budget analysis for English news viewing audience in the country.
In the week between February 27 and March 4, 2016, CNBC-TV18 had a 72 percent share of viewership in cities with a population of a million people and above, across India, according to BARC data.
