TCS's massive workforce cut pulls the top 5 Indian IT firms to a collective 0.5% headcount drop despite rivals' hiring

Top 5 Indian IT firms report a net headcount drop of 0.5% in Q2 FY26, with the industry total contracting to 1.46 million. The decline is clearly attributed to the major reductions at TCS (-3.2%) and Tech Mahindra (-1.8%). In contrast, Infosys (+2.5%), Wipro (+1.0%), and HCL Tech (+1.6%) all posted headcount growth for the quarter.
