Former professor's fast-growing generics firm Lupin, run by daughter Vinita and son Nilesh, went on an acquisition spree to expand its global presence. To boost sales in the U.S. market, it acquired New Jersey-headquartered Gavis in July for $880 million, gaining its first American factory and a portfolio of niche drugs. In August it opened a research center in Florida. It also picked up generics firms in Brazil and Russia and a portfolio of specialty drugs from Germany's Temmler Pharma.
