The commodities rout, market mayhem and global economic uncertainty have dented the wealth of many of the world’s richest. This past year 221 billionaires got knocked off our list; not since 2009—when the credit crisis exiled 355 from the three-comma club—have so many fallen in one year.
China lost the most—42—followed by the US, which had 25 ex-billionaires. Brazil lost 23, while 19 Russians and 15 Indians got the boot—giving a new meaning to the term ‘BRIC economy’.
