Gravity Game
The Gravity Stools, designed and created by Dutch Artist Jolan van der Wiel, may look like oddly shaped toadstools, but it’s their design philosophy, a study in gravity and magnetic force, that really makes them stand out. The stools are made by pouring a mixture of iron filings, colour pigments and six kinds of plastics into a mould. This is then placed in an inventive machine with strong magnets integrated into its structure. A lever pulls the magnets upward slowly and the iron filings move accordingly with the rest of the concoction through magnetic force thus forming the legs of the stool. The seat is formed by the contours of the mould. The best part about Gravity Stools is that they’re not just an art piece—with a weight capacity of 200 kgs, they’re completely functional.
