India's literati may love to hate Chetan Bhagat, but the bestselling author has a mass appeal that other writers can only dream of. Half Girlfriend, his seventh book in a decade, was published this year with a print run of 2 million-the biggest order so far in Indian publishing. His foray into Bollywood has also been a success: He wrote the screenplay for the Salman Khan-starrer Kick which became a massive hit. The romantic comedy film 2 States, adapted from Bhagat's book of the same name, has helped cement his status in Bollywood. The film earned Rs 37 crore in three days after its release in April, and is now in the Rs 100-crore club. In the corporate world, Bhagat is a sought-after motivational speaker.
