The families of the four children of the late S Anantharamakrishnan, founder of the Amalgamations Group, share this fortune. Their biggest asset is privately-held tractor flagship Tractors & Farm Equipment (TAFE) in which the family owns 76.25 percent. TAFE, in turn, has a minority stake in AGCO. The 66-year-old Amalgamations has a portfolio of over 40 companies but the family's net worth estimate is conservative as it is largely based on a valuation of TAFE and diesel-engine maker Simpson & Co. The group is chaired by A Krishnamoorthy, a son of the founder, whose niece Mallika Srinivasan chairs and runs TAFE. Srinivasan disputes our net worth estimate but did not provide an alternative estimate.
Fast Fact: Srinivasan's daughter Lakshmi Venu is married to the son of Infosys billionaire NR Narayana Murthy.
