What’s cooler than owning one of Steve Mcqueen’s vintage cars or motorcycles? How about living in one of his old houses? McQueen’s Palm Springs residence recently went back on the market with an asking price of $4.6 million. The mid-century modern house—designed by architect Hugh Kaptur in 1964—is 4,493 square feet with four bedrooms, four baths and a pool. And the neighbourhood couldn’t be better: McQueen’s Southridge Drive home is next door to the John Lautner-designed Elrod House (made famous as Willard Whyte’s mansion in Diamonds Are Forever). As for the decor, the King of Cool told his then-wife, Neile Adams, how he wanted it furnished: “Just think of this as my pad, baby, okay? Decorate it as if it belonged to a man, a bachelor. No feminine stuff.” And, yes, they eventually got divorced.mg_87033_mcqueen_palm_spring_280x210.jpg
