I first came to India in 1988 with my wife on holiday. One thing I do remember very well is my experience at the airport. I was treated like a schoolboy — and kept in line by immigration officials who made sure we did not cross the line before we came forward for our passport!

Very astute observation by Andrew about doing business in India. I would like to hear how you overcame the adding accountability part in your own country as human nature is to shirk it, isn't it? Maybe there is a lesson for us there to replicate in India? I would certainly like to know as author of "Doing Business in India for Dummies" for my updated version of the book!
on Oct 10, 2009All the observations are correct except for the one which points to Indians' inability to understand dollars. My observation is that the Indians are far more at ease in understanding dollars than Americans are in understanding Rupees
