Nemai Ghosh (84) is best known as the photo-biographer of Satyajit Ray, documenting the filmmaker’s personal and professional life from 1967 till his death in 1992. He has also documented the works of filmmakers Mrinal Sen, Goutam Ghose and MS Sathyu, apart from a variety of Bengali theatre, landscapes, and portraits. A common element in Ghosh’s images is an unusual candidness, which he achieves through the excellent rapport he creates with his subjects and his gentle demeanour. His works have been exhibited globally.

This selection of images include six from Ghosh’s extensive archives, and two from his book Satyajit Ray and Beyond
