Spewing fire: The volcanic paroxysms of Mount Etna
Mount Etna has stirred from its sleep and the fire gushing from its belly is a fiery libretto written in the ashen air. Here's the story of a seething volcano in its awesome, deadly form
The 3,300-metre-high Mount Etna volcano erupted with a spectacular blast again, spewing lava, ash and volcanic rock into the dark sky and created a large river of lava that cascaded down the volcano's slopes. The column of ash and lava reached a height of 33,000 feet, according to scientists at an Etna observatory in eastern Sicily, Italy.
