Delhi: Hariom Singh, Shop assistant
Singh, 24, awaits customers at a retail brand outlet at Connaught Place, in Delhi. For a once-bustling area that youngsters thronged, footfalls of 15 or less even during weekends is unsustainable. But that’s the number the fashion brands in the deserted shopping district will have to contend with for now. Singh, who comes to work on alternate days, like all the other staff members, had to deal with halved pay, but their cheerful countenance comes from watching a market economy limping back to normality.
