Media baron's Sun TV Network has been under a cloud since June when the federal home ministry withdrew the broadcaster's security clearance. The ministry alleged that Sun was a potential threat to national security because Maran and his politician brother Dayanidhi are embroiled in a telecom corruption case being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation. The Marans have denied all charges. The government also barred the group from participating in an auction for radio FM licenses, but 2 courts ruled in Sun's favor, allowing it to participate. The tax authorities took Maran to court for allegedly evading taxes. Maran responded that he'd paid all his taxes. Despite these legal troubles, Sun TV 's revenues and net profits were up in the latest quarter on rising ad revenues.
