Newcomer chairs privately held generics maker USV, known for its drugs for diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, among much else. The firm has its roots in a small venture started by her grandfather, a noted social reformer and politician, to import medicines. It expanded into manufacturing in a joint venture with an American company in 1961. Her late father took charge in the 1960s. Husband Prashant, a Cornell University grad, is USV 's managing director.
